Corporate Home > Company > Standardizing with Twin Disc has Benefited Australian Marine Company
![]() According to Terry Hewitt, manager of MG Kailis Group’s Marine Services engineering department, the decision to standardize was due to Twin Disc product reliability, support and the local Twin Disc service facilities. Established in 1962, the MG Kailis Group operates a large fleet of prawn trawlers, pearling vessels and support boats throughout Australia, most of which are maintained by their Marine Services division. In addition to their own fleet, they also provide products and services to other companies in the fishing and marine industries of Western Australia. This includes designing and manufacturing new vessels as well as refurbishment and refit of trawlers, commercial vessels, ferries, and even pleasure boats. They handle approximately 70 vessel refits per year. Currently, MG Kailis carries approximately 10 Twin Disc marine gears in stock for emergency use to minimize downtime during the fishing season, according to Hewitt. These units are either tested or rebuilt by Twin Disc (Pacific) to ensure optimum performance should the need arise. ![]() Hewitt believes the QuickShift® MGX Series will set the standards for others to follow in the Commercial Heavy Duty Fishing Boats category. When the QuickShift MGX-516 is released he plans to incorporate them in future refits displacing existing MG-516s. ![]() Nick Lozowy (Senior Technician) has been working in Twin Disc Perth Branch and supporting the MG Kailis Fleet for over 25 years |
